The Maine Human Rights Commission is the State Agency tasked with investigating any reported discrimination and enforcing the anti-discrimination laws as laid out in the Maine Human Rights Act. Protected classes under the MHRA include race, color, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity (including gender expression), age, physical or mental disability, genetic predisposition, religion, ancestry, or national origin.

Any person in Maine experiencing unlawful discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, public accommodations, education, and even extension of credit can file a complaint with the Commission in person or by mail. The Commission has been enforcing Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Laws by investigating complaints, providing mediation services, and partnering with federal agencies to ensure complaints are taken seriously.
