The Wabanaki Alliance is a coalition of the Mi’kmaq Nation, Houlton Band of Maliseet, the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and the Penobscot Nation. Their primary focus is on education and the solidification of tribal sovereignty.
The Wabanaki Alliance channels its efforts into legislative work, through advocacy and support of policies moving towards sovereignty, but protection of the Wabanaki people, and preservation of Maine’s environment. Within the modern media buzz, across the globe, indigenous voices are still being sidelined and drowned out, hiding how many policy changes and cultural shifts affect their communities.
